What impels you to support Tribe Rising? And why should other people care about what Tribe Rising is doing?

Steve: There is so much poverty, death, and hopelessness in the World. Basic education can help people lift themselves out of these conditions. Christ teaches us to help the less fortunate. Helping Tribe Rising is one way of living that teaching. 

Ellie: I have always believed that education can change lives. Inspired by the dedication & leadership of Father Maria Joseph, Annette, and Paul, Tribe Rising gives us the opportunity to participate in changing lives and seeing the changes happen in our lifetime. Looking at the smiling faces of the Santal children tells us we made a good choice.

Was there someone or something in high school that influenced you as a student, or set you on a career path?

Steve: I always had an aptitude for numbers. My high school math teacher encouraged my interest. I went on to receive degrees in Engineering & Business leading to a 35-year career in Banking.

Ellie: When I was in high school the main career choices for girls were nursing or teaching. Not sure how I ended up as a Research Librarian for consulting engineering firms.

What was the best trip you have ever taken?

Steve: In 2023 we took River Cruise from Paris to Omaha Beach. My Dad landed there shortly after D-Day, so the trip had special meaning for me.

Ellie: The trip from Paris to Omaha Beach was also my favorite. Visiting the American Cemetery and walking on Omaha Beach were emotional for both of us. It was our 1 st trip to Paris, and it was wonderful.

What is the best book you have read in the past 12 months?

Steve: The Lost City of Z by David Grann.

Ellie: I just started rereading Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. It’s likely the best book I’ll read this year.

What is the one thing you’d like to share with the Gurap students?

Steve & Ellie: Believe in Yourselves & Your Dreams Can Come True
