Here's to Another Year of Great Hope!

Happy New Year from Tribe Rising India! Cheers to Another Year of Hope!

The new school year is getting off to a great start for the 550 students at St Xavier’s Gurap! On January 4 and 5 the students and parents arrived on campus to settle in for the new school year. The year ahead is already filled with so much promise for students like Sourav, Saniya, Meri, Shankar, Kornali and Sukumoni shown above. The students continue to dream and thanks to you, our generous donors and sponsors, they will have the resources they need to make those dreams a reality.

With the three main floors of the high school building complete (stay tuned to learn more about the possibilities for the fourth floor!), our partners will focus on developing a high school program commensurate with what is typically offered only to more privileged students. State-of-the art science and technology labs and qualified teachers who can bring them to life for the students will be important funding needs as St Xavier’s Gurap High School takes root this year.

To maximize the potential of existing resources and funding, the first high school class has remained small–filled with many students who have been at St Xavier since they were very young children. This year, the school has opened a second class of first and second grades. Gurap is growing its future high school students from the bottom up!

While many students will have to wait for another year to join the campus, the hardworking Gurap teachers and staff are utilizing every possible resource to accommodate another year of exponential growth and ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive. Construction continues with upgrading and expanding the original (now boys’) dormitory and building the much needed larger kitchen and new refectory, which will have the capacity to serve everyone. We promise to stretch every dollar of donation to meet these substantial needs.

Over the years, we have talked about the expensive and not-at-all-sexy project of filling the land. The wet and easily-flooded land is good for growing rice, but not for a school meant to last for decades. This year, just about all of the fill will be complete. Literally and figuratively, we expect new paths and more solid walkways in 2024.

None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of YOU, our committed donors.

Here’s to another year filled with hope and possibility–for everyone.

Aima sarhau, thank you.
